2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Action Game Project Ethos
2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Shift Follows Poor Reception
Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's underwhelming early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed team members about this decision through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they recruited Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire message from the president's announcement:
Team—
I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was revealing. It confirmed the potential of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You accepted the input to mind and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
The trust in this project grows every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce the new hire as the latest Director of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, he starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and experience in the PVP shooter genre is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all excited to keep witnessing the progress of the game in the time to come.
The President
