'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the dramatic final moments of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles after the on-field celebration.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and his teammate quickly slammed home the deflection before racing off toward the home end to revel in the moment, with the crowd swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory capped an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. During the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a spectator shouting out and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory earned a next round game at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a team Galbraith ran close at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when his former team took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's first-time shot from about long distance going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that far out," stated Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant facing off against the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the attacker was among the City players who paid tribute to the way his former team attacked the game.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It appears that they complete every delivery and they know how to manage and neutralize a game. You can feel you're all right and then without warning they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be alert every second of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and attention just to remain competitive."

Welsh Transition

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He made a name as a fans' favourite across two seasons at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in his new home. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at League Two the Manchester club, before he moved on from Old Trafford.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a slightly green going into men's football. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like play is circulated without real physicality. There's not many tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

International Recognition

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, excelling for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including home and away encounters against Germany. His former international manager, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his eye for a killer pass.

Early Days

This marks quite the ride for the youngster from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who was raised observing his father, Stuart, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's single match for Manchester United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was closed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he transferred from aged a teenager? "It was relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it reached a stage where I believed I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play first-team games. Now I'm steadily progressing again."

Life in Swansea

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to Sketty, the young professional was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a minibus driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to socialize with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual out of the minibus and on the road. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
